Top seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland rallied from a set down to win the Korea Open at her first attempt on Sunday. She ousted Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia by 6-7 (6/8), 6-3, 6-4.
Radwanska spent half of the two and three-quarter hours with Pavlyuchenkova in the first set to fight back from 3-0 down and saving four set points before rejoicing in the tie break. The Polish roared back in the second set to take the first three games and subsequently tie up the match at 6-3 proving why she is ranked number four in the world.
However, the deciding set favored the serve for the first nine games, before Radwanska crashed into the final break to end up the match and haul the title.
Radwanska expressed that especially following a great match, approximately three hours of great tennis at a really high level, of course she is very happy. She added that it was a very close match with tight sets, all of them, but she was just a little bit better in the vital moments today.
On the other side, the Russian third seed, who had little time to recuperate from her hard fought semi-final with Francesca Schiavone of Italy on Saturday, still succeeded to push Radwanska all the way.
Pavlyuchenkova commented that it was tough to lose this match after fighting so long and coming so close. However, it was difficult and frustrating, but in tennis one can be up, then down and one loses some and one wins some. She added that she is actually proud of herself. She had a great week. She showed some good tennis and it was a great final.
Moreover, it was Radwanska's third WTA title of the year apart from the 13th of her career, while improving her head-to-head record against Pavlyuchenkova to 3-1.
