Barcelona fielded a team full of newcomers and second team players on Saturday in LA against a relatively stronger Tottenham side. Tottenham starting eleven had the likes of Christian Eriksen, Son, Aurier and Lucas Moura. However, Barcelona led by Sergi Roberto seemed to be in the driver’s seat once the match kicked off. Rafinha calmly headed down a brilliant cross into the box to set up Munir who tucked it home with relative ease. The score soon changed to 2-0 when Arthur received the ball just outside the box on the right. He took a touch to bring it under control and curved it in with his right. However, two quick defensive mistakes saw Tottenham come right back into the game. The score remained the same which meant the game was going to be decided on penalties.
Jasper Cillessen, who had been rock-solid throughout denying Tottenham time and again in the match, did brilliantly to keep one out. It proved to be decisive as Barcelona converted all five of their penalties, Malcom netting the winner. Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez suffered hamstring injuries during the match and had to be sent home for further treatment.
