Yuki Bhambri qualified for the singles main draw of the ATP Challenger tournament as well as stunned second seeded combo of Sanchai and Sonchat Ratiwatana in the doubles title along with partner Chieh-Fu Wang, in Taiwan on Monday. Double delight indeed!
Third seeded Yuki hammered Japanese fifth seed Arata Onozawa by 7-5 6-1 in 1 hour and 36 minutes in the 3rd and final round of the singles qualifiers.
Actually, he has drawn with Amir Weintraub of Israel as his first round rival. Moreover, this will be second time that Yuki will lock horns with Amir. He has squashed him last year in Uzbekistan. In case Yuki sneaks past Amir, he may face world number 144 seventh seed Yuichi Sugita of Japan, to whom he has lost both his earlier matches. Notably, Yuki is the only Indian competing in the singles event as Karunuday Singh lost his final qualifying round by 2-6 1-6 to top seeded Yasutaka Uchiyama of Japan.
Particularly, in the doubles main draw of the USD 125,000 hard court tournament, Yuki along with Wang created ripples by ousting the fearsome Thai combination of Ratiwatanas with a 7-6 (5) 7-6 (1) victory in the first round, which they completed in 1 hour and 31 minutes.
