Victoria Azarenka got the better of Vera Lapko, to set up a second round meeting with long-time rival Serena Williams at Indian Wells. Azarenka, the two-time Indian Wells champion started the match a bit passively, but caught up well to outclass fellow Belarussian. Azarenka won the match 6-2, 6-3. She mentioned that she was looking forward to meet Williams as they have a long history and also she gets motivated, and inspired which drives her to play better.
On the other hand, Bianca Andreescu of Canada rallied from a set down to beat Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu 6-7(3-7), 6-3, 6-3. The teenagers fared well on the opening day of women’s draw. And Amanda Ansimova too reached the second round with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Serbian Aleksandra Krunic. Petra Kvitova, third-seeded in this tournament, will be facing either Venus Williams or Andrea Petkovic in the second round. She mentioned she wasn’t surprised to see teenagers performing so well. And having “no fear” and playing freely are the main reasons that the young generation is performing so well.
