The Round of 16 clash between Japan and Belgium was definitely one of the most exciting matches of this world cup. The Asian team, who have never won a knock out game in its history, came very close to knocking out Belgium, scoring two past them early in the second half. Despite their best efforts, the Japanese were left heartbroken when Chadli scored the winner to take Belgium through.
In spite of their exit, the Japanese team managed to win our hearts. Just a few days back, the Japanese fans gained massive respect throughout the internet due to their decision of staying behind and cleaning up the stadium. After the match, they left a message in Russian, “Spasibo” which means thank you having cleaned up the whole dressing room.
A FIFA official tweeted the picture along with the note of thanks, and the internet soon started showering the team with praises. Not only this, the fans were again seen cleaning the Rostov arena equipped with trash bags, some with tears streaming down their faces.
Japan may have narrowly missed out on a quarter final spot, but they were definitely one of the most well behaved teams/set of fans to have ever graced the World Cup.
