Midfielder Manpreet Singh will be leading India from the front in the upcoming Hockey World Cup. The tournament will be held at Bhubaneswar later this month. Akashdeep Singh will have added responsibility to lead the forward line during offensive play, as Sunil and Ramandeep will be absent. The backline will be comprised of two local players Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas. Coach Harendra Singh says that the team was picked on all-round skills. An 18 member hockey squad is filled with young energetic players, except for seasoned goalie PR Sreejesh.
