Davis Cup: Novak Djokovic and Janko Tipsarevic catapulted Serbia into the final

It has been reported that Novak Djokovic along with Janko Tipsarevic catapulted Serbia into the Davis Cup final clash with defending champions the Czech Republic on Sunday following over-turning a 2-1 deficit to trounce Canada by 3-2 in the semi-finals.

The 2010 champions Serbia is scheduled to host the November 15-17 final against the Czechs who had ensured the victory in their semi-final on Saturday when they unleashed an unbeatable 3-0 lead against Argentina in Prague.

In fact, world number one Djokovic continued to keep Serbia alive in Belgrade by ousting world number 11 Milos Raonic by 7-6 (7/1), 6-2, 6-2. Subsequently, the world number 24 Tipsarevic assured Serbia of a second final in four years by thrashing Vasek Pospisil by 7-6 (7/3), 6-2, 7-6 (8/6).

However, Pospisil continued his fight, came back from 5-2 in the third set and saved four match points in the consequent tiebreaker.

Djokovic, who arrived in Belgrade after been defeated by Rafael Nadal in the US Open final in New York on Monday, commented that he has won a number of Grand Slams but nothing compares to sharing the joy of victory with his team mates, who were present there for him and cheer on every shot he took on the court in the Davis Cup.

Tipsarevic admitted that this is one of the sweetest wins of his career and he wishes to thank his team mates for their support. He would like to see them right there in the final against the Czechs. Particularly, November's final is supposed to be the 3rd encounter between Serbia and the Czech Republic in the last four seasons. No doubt, Serbia won the 2010 semi-final by 3-2 before the Czechs revenged with a 4-1 quarter-final victory last year.

On the other hand, Argentina won the two dead rubbers with Horacio Zeballos, who overpowered Lukas Rosol by 4-6, 7-6 (8/6), 6-4 and Leonardo Mayer trounced Jiri Vesely by 6-4, 6-4 in Prague.

Both Radek Stepanek and Tomas Berdych, who had won their singles titles on Friday, had wrapped up the tie for the Czech Republic on Saturday by banging Zeballos and Carlos Berlocq in the doubles by 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.

The 28-time champions Australia returned to the World Group for the first time in 6 years with Bernard Tomic, who awarded the crucial third point against Poland with a 6-4, 7-6 (7/5), 6-3 victory over Lukasz Kubot in Warsaw. Notably, the victory gave Pat Rafter's team an unbeatable 3-1 lead.

To the knowledge of everyone, Andy Murray brought Britain to the World Group after a five-year gap when he ousted Ivan Dodig of Croatia by 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 in Umag for a 3-1 advantage. Moreover, Wimbledon and Olympic champion Murray won his opening singles on Friday and partnered with Colin Fleming to win the doubles on Saturday.

On the other hand, World number 12 Kei Nishikori propelled Japan into the World Group with a 3-2 victory over Colombia in Tokyo. Nishikori got the better of Santiago Giraldo by 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 to level the tie before Go Soeda hammered Alejandro Falla by 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3.

Remarkably, Daniel Brands preserved Germany's World Group status by hauling victory over Brazil following entering as a late replacement after illness to Philipp Kohlschreiber. The 26-year-old, who made his Davis Cup debut in Saturday's doubles, celebrated a 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Thomasz Bellucci.

Steve Darcis, the man who knocked off Rafael Nadal out of Wimbledon, banged Amir Weintraub by 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in Antwerp as Belgium clinched a World Group position at the expense of Israel.

Moreover, previously Ruben Bemelmans had placed Belgium back on terms at 2-2 by hammering number one Dudi Sela of Israel by 7-5, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4.

Above all, Spain, Switzerland and the Netherlands had already clinched victories on Saturday over Ukraine, Austria and Ecuador respectively.
