Davis Cup semi-final: Novak Djokovic will clash with Vasek Pospisil in the opening match

It has been reported that World number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia will clash with the 41st ranked Vasek Pospisil of Canada in the opening match of a Davis Cup semi-final showdown at Belgrade on Friday.

Unfortunately, Djokovic suffered his third loss in four successive trips to the US Open final against Rafael Nadal of Spain on Sunday. He will definitely try to get his team off to a good start, as Serbia targets Davis Cup splendor following the victory in 2010 against France.

In fact, the trophy was a preface to a glorious 2011 season for the 26-year-old Serbian. It witnessed him win the US and Australian opens as well as Wimbledon.

Remarkably, the first match is starting at 1400 GMT, which will be followed by a rubber between Montenegro-born Milos Raonic of Canada, who is the world number 11 and the 23rd-ranked Janko Tipsarevic.

In the doubles event, Nenad Zimonjic and Ilija Bozoljac will lock horns with Pospisil and his team-mate Daniel Nestor on Saturday. Particularly, Zimonjic will play against Nestor, who is his former partner with whom he won Wimbledon twice in 2008 and 2009 along with the 2010 French Open.

Djokovic and Raonic are scheduled to play against each other on Sunday, while Tipsarevic and Pospisil are supposed to play the last match.

Actually, the tie is ready to be played on an indoor clay court prior a sell-out mob of 15,000 at Belgrade Arena. The winner will certainly march into November's final against either Argentina or the Czech Republic.

Moreover, Serbia will be playing without Viktor Troicki, who is serving an 18-month doping ban awarded by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
