Dumbfounded Germany

Mexican coach reportedly drew up a plan 6 months prior to the start of the World Cup. He had noticed that Germany had central defenders who play high up on the pitch and are slow. It meant that if quick Mexican forwards or wingers got past the defence, then it would be a case of one-on-one with Manuel Neuer.

Mexico had registered 13 shots on goal in the first half of the match and on the 35th minute, Hummels was caught out of position by some eye-catching play in the midfield and the ball was played onto Hirving Lozano who finished off the excellent move with a cool finish past Manuel Neuer.

However, thereafter we witnessed wave after waves of German attack in response to the first goal where Toni Kroos hit a very good free-kick only for goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa to make a brilliant fingertip save. He was the hero of Mexico in the last World Cup and going by his performance in tonight’s win against Germany, he might be the difference between a win and a loss for Mexico going ahead.

German boss Joachim Low was unruffled after the defeat against Mexico and said that Germany will not suffer the fate of previous winners of the World Cup and get knocked out in the Group stages.
