FIFA suspends ex-South African official Sedibe for five years

Zurich, March 14 (IANS) World governing body FIFA's ethics committee on Monday suspended the former president of the South African Football Association Leslie Sedibe from practicing any football-related activities for five years, in addition to imposing a fine of $16,200.

Sedibe was sanctioned against the backdrop of investigations initiated in 2014, regarding corruption offences committed in relation to friendly matches held in South Africa before the 2010 FIFA World Cup, reports Efe.

According to a statement released by FIFA, "The adjudicatory chamber decided that the former official Leslie Sedibe had infringed art. 13 (General rules of conduct), art. 15 (Loyalty), and art. 18 (Duty of disclosure, cooperation and reporting) of the FIFA Code of Ethics (FCE)."

Lindile Kika, a former official of the South African Football Association, was also suspended for six years for committing similar offences related to the same case.
