Mayank Agarwal’s superb batting display on debut has put India in a good position in the 3rd Test against Australia. Mayank played an impressive innings of 76 runs to become the top-scoring Indian batsman on Test debut in Australia. India’s move to replace the opening pair of KL Rahul and Murali Vijay with Hanuma Vihari and Mayank Agarwal paid off well although Vihari got dismissed early for 8 runs. Following Mayank’s dismissal Pujara and skipper Kohli were at the crease having scored 68 and 47 runs respectively. At stumps India were 215 at the fall of 2 wickets. Pat Cummins claimed both the wickets of Mayank and Vihari. Mayank broke a 71 year old record of the top score by an Indian batsman on Australian soil, with Dattu Phadkar having scored 51 in 1947. After Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first the openers added 40 runs on the board. Agarwal’s performance is just a reflection of the stupendous first-class record over the past two seasons where he scored 1516 runs in 15 matches, with an average of 68.90.
