French Open: Andy Murray pulled out due to chronic back injury

World No. 1 tennis player Andy Murray pulled out from the French Open on Tuesday due to chronic back injury and will now concentrate on preparing for the commencement of the grass-court season next month.

The U.S. Open champion consulted with the specialists regarding his injury this week after being compelled to withdraw from his second-match against Marcel Granollers of Spain at the Italian Open last Wednesday.

Murray declared that it is a really tough decision and he loves to play in Paris. But after seeking medical advice, he was found not fit to compete. He apologized to the organizers and thanked everyone for the messages of support. Currently he is focusing on getting back on the court as soon as possible.

The French Open--the second Grand Slam tournament of the year is supposed to commence on Sunday. Murray took a long injury break last week in Rome early in the second set against Granollers after getting his left thigh and lower back massaged. Apparently, the chances are zero for his participation in the French Open--the only major in which he hasn't arrived the final.

Murray admitted that he has an issue with his lower back and it is an issue for a while. He expects it to go away. It has been a problem since the end of 2011 but it got worse during last year's clay season. He would have been very surprised if he was playing in Paris.

Murray reached the quarterfinals of the French Open last year. He fell to David Ferrer before advanced to lose his first Wimbledon final to Roger Federer. He in turn defeated the Swiss star to win Olympic gold. Subsequently, he got the better of Novak Djovokic at the U.S. Open for his first Grand Slam title in 2012. He may take part in Wimbledon which will commence on 25th June and continue till 7th July this year.
