It was a doomsday for Indian shuttlers as Saina Nehwal, P V Sindhu, K Srikanth and Ajay Jayram bowed out from the second round of the French Super Series today. The fourth seeded Saina was stunned by 22-10 15-21 20-22 by Yeon Ju Bae of Korea in 1 hour and 11 minutes.
The other Indian female shuttler, who was ousted is P V Sindhu. She could not clear the second hurdle too and lost to less formidable Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland. Remarkably world number 11 Sindhu, who banged world number six Ji Hyun Sung of Korea in straight games in the opening round, lost by 21-10 19-21 16-21 to 30th ranked Gilmour in a hard-fought match that lasted exactly for 1 hour.
Unfortunately, on the other side, the Indian male shuttlers K Srikanth as well as Ajay Jayram also crashed out in the second round.
No doubt, young Srikanth challenged the sixth seed Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand with a tough time before departing. The Indian fought brilliantly for 58 minutes against the well seasoned Ponsana, before losing the game by 21-15 18-21 15-21.
Moreover, Jayram was also ousted in the second round by top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia.
In fact, it was a commendable performance by Jayram against the highly-rated Lee Chong Wei, who had to toil hard to pocket the 21-18 21-18 victory and reserve a berth for himself in the quarterfinals.
