India vs England: 1st Test (Day 2) Review

England finished the first day of play with 285 runs on the board, losing 9 wickets. They could only manage to add two more runs to their total before India wrapped up their innings on day 2. Trailing by 287 runs, India started their first innings. Things couldn’t have been any worse for the visitors, who lost quick wickets to find themselves sinking under pressure. At 100/5, it looked like the Indian innings would come to a crashing end.

We have all heard that big names live for situations like this and up stepped the Indian captain. With half his team gone, a resolute Virat played one of the best innings of his career to save the day. Virat’s brilliant knock of 149 guided India to a respectable total of 274 runs, trailing by only 13. India had managed to avoid a massive collapse.

A journalist tweeted,

ViratKohli completes 7000 runs in International cricket as captain in just 124 innings. He is the quickest to the milestone surpassing Brian Lara who needed 164 innings,”

England came out to bat for the second time in the day. At the end of the session, England could only score 9 runs for the loss of one early wicket. India will try to capitalise on this, restricting the English on Day 3.
