Sports minister Jitender Singh has declared that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided to lift ban on the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Indian sportspersons will soon be able to join the Olympics while addressing a press conference on Thursday.
He revealed that all formalities are expected to conclude within 30 to 60 days following his meetings with officials belonging to the International Olympic Committee on Wednesday. He assured that the government will ensure free and fair elections to the IOA and it has no intention to interfere in the internal matters of the National Sports Federation. He stressed that transparency and accountability is very important.
The conversation with the IOC on Wednesday in Laussane included age and tenure guidelines of sportspersons too. He had discussed prohibition on wrestling with the IOC president. In addition, he met with IOC officials with an Indian delegation that included shooter Abhinav Bindra.
