Indian Captain Virat Kohli lost the first position in ICC Test Ranking for batsmen following a not-so-significant performance in the 2nd test against England, which Team India lost. He now stands second to former Australian captain Steve Smith who is currently banned for a year on charges of ball-tampering against South Africa. The Indian captain scored only 23 and 17 runs in the 2nd test which led to his decline in the ranking list. Other Indian players too saw a fall in rankings after a poor performance in this test series. Besides Captain Kohli, Lokesh Rahul, Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane saw a fall in their rankings. However, it is off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who is a notable exception in this case, whose ranking has gone up from 67 to 57 in the list for batsmen. Hardik Pandya has also moved up to 74th place among bowlers.
