Leander Paes and Sania Mirza crashed into the semifinal of China Open

Top Indian tennis players Leander Paes and Sania Mirza crashed into the semifinal of China Open following winning their respective doubles quarterfinal ties on Thursday.

Paes, along with Canadian partner Daniel Nestor, overpowered Fernando Verdasco and David Marrero by 7-6 6-3 in the last-8 tie.

Remarkably, the top-seed Indo-Canadian combo thrashed the unseeded Spaniards in a match that ended up in 1 hour and 23 minutes.

Subsequently, Paes and Nestor will encounter Fabio Fognini and Andreas Seppi in the final-4 clash. No doubt, the Italian duo overpowered third seeds Aisam ul Haq Qureshi of Pakistan and Jean-Julien Roger of Netherlands by 6-2 7-5 in the quarterfinal.

Previously, Sania Mirza partnering with Cara Black marched into the semis of China Open following winning the final-eight encounter on Thursday. The eighth-seeded Indo-Zimbabwean combination trounced Yung Jan-Chang of Chinese Taipei and Zie Zheng of China by 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinal. Sania-Black hammered the unseeded couple in a match that continued for an hour and eight minutes.

Moreover Sania and Black, who won the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo last week, will subsequently lock horns with top seeds Sara Errani-Roberta Vinci. They had outclassed Kristina Mladenovic-Flavia Pennetta by 6-3 6-4 in the last-8 clash.
