Fifth seed Luksika Kumkhum of Thailand outclassed tournament favorite and number one seed Zheng Saisai of China in a shocking defeat at Mumbai Open. World No. 103 Kum khum reached the semifinals after outlasting her opponent 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. She made it to the third round of this year’s Australian Open, which was her career-best performance.
Saisai got ousted after two hours and sixteen minutes of a near evenly fought match. Kumkhum lost the first set but was determined to show her class as she got the better of the Chinese in the second set. She was flawless and pressed the accelerator pedal in the right moment of the match.
Kumkhum maintained her aggression in the third set. She broke Zheng’s first three service games of the set to lead 5-1. Zheng hit back two solid shots to get hold of a score of 5-3. But Kumkhum maintained her composure to win the game finally.
