It was instances of brilliance for Liecester City’s striker Ahmed Musa when he scored twice against Iceland, lifting the crestfallen Argentinean spirits. A win for Iceland would have left Argentina to despair. Thanks to Musa, Argentina have a bit of hope to make it to the last 16.
The first half of the match was not very convincing from Nigeria. After the start of the second half, Nigeria was much better. It was as if they found a different gear to go forward after the first half. In the 50th minute, from an Iceland long throw, Nigeria counter attacked. Victor Moses sprinted down the right wing with the ball and passed to Musa who controlled the ball deftly and finished beyond Halldorsson. Less than a minute later, Ahmed Musa again collected a long ball and started making a mazy run to finally beat Halldorsson to find the back of the net again!
On the 80th minute Iceland won a penalty through VAR (Video Assistant Referee) but Sigurdsson shot over the bar. Iceland lost their golden chance to get back into the game and thus blew Group D wide open.
