The Grand Slam title clashes have seen some historic moments in between the players, where some were crowned, but the others received immense respect. US Open 2019, also offered such moments, and the title clash in the men’s singles between Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev, resulted in another almost 5 hours’ epic battle, where World No.2 Nadal got his 4th US Open title, Medvedev managed to win several hearts with his stunning effort.
Throughout the tournament, Daniil Medvedev did not have the wisest of approach to the fans, portraying him in a dark light, but in the final he stole many hearts, proving his villainous approach otherwise. The Arthur Ashe Stadium entirely succumbed in Rafael Nadal’s supporters cheering for him at his appearance, while Daniil’s entrance was disrupted by plenty of discouraging outburst from the spectators.
However, in the 4 hours and 50 minutes’ battle, both the players’ dominated the court at a time, for a while, before Rafael seized the ultimatum. Daniil’s attacks and returns, almost had Rafael trapped in them, as in the 3rd and 4th set, where he made his intension clear for the title, scoring 7-5 and 6-4. However, Nadal fired back in the 5th set finishing up with the score 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, 4-6. Rafael Nadal snatched his 19th Grand Slam Title, but Daniil Medvedev’s spirit will be something to remember as he tarnished his enraged attitude with an enchanting performance that the crowd eventually came to love.
