Pakistan lost their opening tie against Germany 1-0. The four time champions put up a brave fight against the higher ranked opponent, but the Olympic bronze medalist team inflicted a heartbreaking defeat to the Pakistan team. Although the Pakistan team lacks experience, it was a good result for the team as a whole. Germany’s Marco Miltkau scored the only goal of the match in the 36th minute of the game. Pakistan will be facing Malaysia in the next match, and the Germans will face the Netherlands who won by 7-0 margin in their opening match against Malaysia.
Jeroen Hertzberger was the star of the Netherlands team as he scored a hat-trick against the hapless Malaysian team. Besides Jeroen,Pruijser, Van der Weerden, Kemperman and Brinkman chipped in a goal each to rout their opponent 7-0. It was a disappointing performance from the Asian Games silver medalist team Malaysia, showing no resilience. Netherlands literally outplayed Malaysia in every department to script a big win.
