Argentina registered a comprehensive victory over Spain in their opening match of the Hockey World Cup2018. Gonzalo Peillat and Augustin Mazzilli were on target for Argentina as they scored a brace each to rout Spain 4-3. Although Spain took lead in the match on two occasions, courtesy Gonzalez and Romeu, they could not prevent the outcome. Vincenc Ruiz took the score to 3-3, Peillat’s 49th minute goal proved to be decisive.
On the other hand, New Zealand got the better of France to begin their World Cup campaign. Kane Russell and Stephen Jenness contributed a goal each. France had a defensive approach, and a late penalty conversion from Charlet took the score from 2-0 to 2-1.
