Tite’s Brazil was held to an unceremonious draw in their first match. In this World Cup, Brazil are seeking redemption from the heavy 7-1 defeat they had to Germany and their style of playing in the early stages of the match clearly indicated the same. Neymar and Philippe Coutinho combined very well from the left flank but they failed to convert the chances they had. However, on the 20th-minute mark, Neymar and Coutinho played a few passes between themselves to pass to Marcelo and the ball eventually fell to Coutinho’s feet who deftly curled the ball past the Swiss goalkeeper into the top corner of the net.
However, the Swiss team pressed from them onwards and won a corner on the 50th minute. Shaqiri curled the corner kick inside the box which was met deftly by Zuber, who powered his header past Brazil goalkeeper Allison.
Brazil went on attacking and Coutinho came close to scoring again on the 70th minute but fired his shot wide of the target. Roberto Firmino was brought in for Jesus late into the match but he did not offer much. The match ended in an equilibrium which is not expected in football; a 1-1 on the final scoreboard. It seemed that Brazil will need more than Neymar to stake a claim on the coveted trophy.
