To the delight of all Indians, former Junior World Champion Nikhat Zareen (54kg) won silver medal in the AIBA World Youth Boxing Championship held at Albena in Bulgaria on 28th September 2013. Nikhat Zareen lost to Yunzi Yuan of China in the title clash.
Notably, Nikhat Zareen recorded a comprehensive victory over Desire Galli of Italy in the quarters to crash into the round of four. Meanwhile, in the semifinals, the India boxer clashed against another junior world champion Viktoriya Virt of Ukraine.
In addition, the 15-year-old Nikhat Zareen won gold medal in flyweight division at the inaugural version of the AIBA Women's Junior & Youth World Boxing Championship in 2011. Nikhat Zareen hails from Andhra Pradesh.
However, in 2013 championship Nikhat Zareen progressed into the youth category and fought in the bantamweight division.
