Top seed P V Sindhu crashed into the second round of the Malaysia Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament after winning over Chena Jiayuan of Singapore.
Sindhu ousted Jiayuan by 21-13 19-21 21-13 in a match that stretched for 47 minutes. Sindhu will play against Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
P C Thulasi fell back in the first round of the women's section, losing to Yao Xue of China by 21-18 21-5. Arundhati Pantawane also lost to Indonesia's Maria Febe Kusumastuti who was ousted by 13-21 21-10 21-14. Tanvi Lal too was squashed by Japan's Ito Kana by 21-8 21-14.
In the men’s event, three Indians qualified for the pre-quarterfinals of the men's singles event in Kuala Lumpur. They are Sameer Verma, R M V Gurusaidutt and K Srikanth. Verma crushed Wei Feng Chong of Malaysia by 21-15 16-21 21-19 in 55 minutes. Gurusai dutt defeated Giap Chin Goh of Malaysia by 21-8 21-9 in just 26 minutes. K Srikanth overpowered Suppanyu Avihingsanon of Thailand by 21-9 21-19 in 36 minutes.
H S Prannoy got a walkover in the first round while lost his second round match against Malaysia's Zainuddin Iskandar Zulkarnain by 15-21 21-14 21-15.
In mixed doubles, Jagadish Yadav and Sanjeeth S lost to the duo of Hardi Hardianto and Agripinna Prima Rahmanto Putra of Indonesia by 21-16 21-17.
