Just as Indian cricket team was in middle of their winning spree, in a tour against West Indies, an e-mail threatening the Indian Cricket team raising a lot of confusion. On Friday, 16th August the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) received an anonymous mail in their official mail accounts stating a possible life-threat on the Indian team. The team is currently residing in Antigua, West Indies, with few matches still to be played.
PCB however, immediately reacted to the grave nature of the mail, by forwarding the mail of International Cricket Council (ICC), and letting them aware of the possible threat. As the e-mail was anonymous and had no mention of any groups or organizations, ICC needed to be informed. In the same due process, the mail was also forwarded to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), within 24 hours.
BCCI in turn, informed the Union Home Ministry about the situation with detailed reports and contacted the Indian Embassy in Antigua and next, Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) Subodh Jaiswal was briefed. As a result, BCCI reportedly stated that the security of Indian Team has been beefed up as well. However, the letter has not been taken so seriously, as the mail seems to be a hoax or prank of some sort. India will be completing their remaining Test matches with West Indies but the anonymous mail does raise some concerns.
