Punjab ousted Uttar Pradesh in a penalty shootout to win the 2013 edition of the Alchemist IHF Federation Cup at the Shivaji Stadium on 28th July, Sunday.
Both sides were tied at 1-1 at the end of full time. Ultimately, the game was decided by penalty shootout. At last, Punjab won by 5-4.
In fact, both sides fought very hard and there was little between the two sides to opt. The match was evenly poised at the half time as both sides failed to find the back of the net.
Subsequently, UP took the lead in the 45th minute through a penalty corner goal from Diwakar Ram. But Punjab quickly replied. They scored the equalizer in the 51st minute through a goal of Rajin Khandulna.
Ajay Kumar, Lakhwinder Singh, Parvinder Singh and Ajit Pandit converted their respective penalty strokes for Punjab. But Amandeep Singh missed his shot.
Sarabjit Singh and Pratinder Singh missed their penalty strokes for UP which cost them the title. On the other hand, Pramod Kumar, Jagwant Singh and Diwakar Ram found the net in the shootout.
