Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna smashed into the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters. On the other side, Leander Paes and his Austrian partner Jurgen Melzer bowed out of the tournament.
Indian duo and sixth seed Bhupathi and Bopanna scored 6-2 6-3 to win over unseeded British pair Dominic Inglot and Jonathan Marray in the second round of the elite clay court tournament. The pair of Bhupathi and Bopanna who combined after splitting, will face unseeded Czech pair of Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek in the subsequent game.
Paes and Melzer made a premature exit after a close defeat against Mexico's Santiago Gonzalez and Scott Lipsky by 6-7 (4) 6-7 (3).
