The lowest ranked team in this World Cup won the opening match of the World Cup and how! World Cup hosts put through five goals past the Saudi Arabian defence as Densi Cheryshev, Yury Gazinsky, Artem Dzyuba and Aleksandr Golovin fired Russia to win by the biggest margin in the history of the opening matches in World Cup ever.
Yuri Gazinsky scored the first goal of the match with a powerful header when he was left completely unmarked in the penalty area and Denis Cheryshev flew past Saudi tackles to smash his shot past the keeper and into the Saudi Arabian goal.
Substitute Artem Dzyuba then again scored with a brilliant header and at the ninety minutes mark Cheryshev finished exquisitely into the top corner before Aleksandr Golovin curled his free-kick around the Saudi Arabian defensive wall. This emphatic win gives Russia a very realistic chance to qualify from the Group Stages to the next round. Aleksandr Golovin who provided two assists and scored the superb free-kick was declared the man-of the match.
