It has been reported that Indian hockey captain Sardar Singh is hospitalized in Ipoh on Monday before the team’s Asia Cup tour. He was suffering from high fever as well as throat infection. The situation became grim as the Indian team was traveling without a team doctor, due to which Singh’s medical treatment was delayed.
The 27-year-old quoted that he initially thought it was only a minor problem. But it became worse and he was hospitalized with fever on Monday.
Meanwhile, hockey India secretary general Narinder Batra clarified that the team was traveling without a doctor as the army did not release BB Nayak, who is a regular member of the team’s support staff for the tournament due to unknown reasons.
It cannot be ignored that Sardar’s absence implies a major blow to the team. In fact, India has to win the tournament to qualify for next year’s World Cup. India is supposed to open their campaign against Oman on 24th August.
