Somdev Devvarman smashed higher-ranked Paolo Lorenzi of Italy to qualify for the ATP China Open singles event.
The 97-ranked Indian ace recorded a 3-6 7-6(5) 6-3 victory over his opponent, who is ranked 12 places above Somdev in the second and final round of the qualifying event.
Previously, Somdev got the better of world number 60 Robin Haase by 2-6 6-4 6-0 in the opening round.
Anyway, Somdev is scheduled to encounter another difficult task in the main draw as he will face world number 31 Fernando Verdasco as his first round rival in the USD 3,566,050 hard court tournament.
In case Somdev manages to surpass the fearsome Spaniard, his next rival could be world number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia.
