Indian tennis star Somdev Devvarman was routed by eighth seeded American John Isner in the third round of the ATP Washington Open after going down in straight sets.
The unseeded Indian lost by 5-7 5-7 to his "good friend" which was their first encounter on the circuit. Somdev fought well with an opponent who is ranked more than 100 places above him in the ATP list in the opening set and saved as many as six break points.
Unfortunately, he could never really push the pressure on Isner, who at the end managed to get the vital break while holding his own serve to haul the set. Actually, Isner did not grant a single break point in the whole match. The local favorite enhanced his dominance in the second set, driving down nine aces in the process. Once more, Isner managed to break Somdev once out of the three chances he seized to seal the issue. Subsequently, he will face Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis in the quarterfinal.
