Stumps at 85 years

West Indian fast bowler Cecil Wright retires from all forms of cricket at the age of 85.  Usually a professional cricketer’s career lasts for 20 years, Cecil’s career lasted for 60 long years.  In this long cricket career, he had played for than two million matches and had taken more than 7 thousand wickets.  Though his name will be missing from the lists of West Indian legends like Joel Garner, Viv Richards, but on the basis of longevity there is no else like Wright.

Wright made his first class cricket debut for Jamaica against Barbados side consisting of players like Wes Hall and Gary Sobers.

This 85 years old had launched his career as a professional cricketer in the Central Lancashire League for Crompton. After staying in England for 3 years he finally planned to settle there and started his family.

When he was asked about his fitness mantra, he replied, “To be honest, I eat anything that’s going but I don’t drink much, just the odd beer”.

And I keep fit, although these days I use my age as an excuse to miss training. I find keeping active helps to ease aches and pains" said Cecil.

Wright will pull the curtain of his long lasting career after the upcoming clash of Uppermill against Pennine League side Springhead
