Transfer Window Round-up: 9th Aug

Real Madrid have finally landed Thibaut Courtois for €35million after having pursued the player for almost a month. They have reportedly reached an agreement with Chelsea over the terms of Kovacic’s one-year loan deal. Chelsea have broken Liverpool’s recent record of signing the most expensive goalkeeper, having triggered Kepa’s€80million release clause to bring the young Spaniard to the Bridge.

Reports in France suggest that PSG and Monaco could make a move for Barcelona’s Croatian star, Ivan Rakitic. If reports are to be believed, they are looking to trigger Rakitic’s€125million release clause in order to bring the World Cup finalist to Ligue 1. With the departure of Andres Iniesta, it looked like Barcelona would require reinforcements in the middle. That’s exactly what the Blaugrana outfit did, bringing in players like Arthur Melo, Arturo Vidal and Malcolm and bringing back Rafinha, who was on loan with Inter, and deciding to retain the Brazilian. All of a sudden, Barca seem to have too many midfielders, with players like Denis Suarez still looking to solidify their place in the starting line-up while the authorities continue struggle to offload players like Andre Gomes. Amidst all this, Barca seem to be pushing for another big signing and that could well be Paul Pogba, a player Barcelona has shown immense interest in lately. This could be a problem for Rakitic, who could see his game time reduce significantly next season thanks to all the options available to Ernesto Valverde.
