Barcelona won their first away game against Real Valladolid 1-0 in a difficult match. The newly promoted side put up a tough resistance but it was their pitch that created major problems for the visitors. Barca went up 1-0 in the second half following a cross-field ball from Suarez, which was headed down by Roberto into the path of Dembele, who tucked it home calmly. Barca saw their second goal ruled out after VAR was called into action. Valladolid did find an equaliser in the last minute of the injury time. Unfortunately for them, the goal was ruled out after VAR intervened. The Spanish FA seemed really unhappy with the pitch and announced that they will be taking necessary action.
Real Madrid on the other hand, travelled to Catalunya for their game against Girona. The Catalan side started off brilliantly taking the lead against a lack-lustre Madrid side. Madrid kept at it and scored twice from the penalty spot. A swift breakaway followed by a brilliant ball from Isco saw Gareth Bale add Madrid’s third. Benzema finished things off, getting his second of the night and sending Madrid to the top of the table on goal difference. However, the score-line was a little harsh on Girona, who played a brilliant game at home and could have easily scored a couple of more goals. But for a couple of late tackles in the box, they could have even managed to salvage a point, if not all three.
