Viswanathan Anand is going to defend his World Chess Championship title against World number one Magnus Carlsen in his home city Chennai. The sport’s world governing body FIDE confirmed Chennai as the venue for the match on Sunday.
Although it was reported that Carlsen was not interested to play in Chennai and favored Paris as a substitute, the FIDE Presidential Board confirmed Chennai as the venue during a meeting in Baku at Azerbaijan on Sunday. The five-time world champion will clash with the Norwegian from 6th to 26th November.
As per a press release, an agreement was signed in Baku by secretary of the All India Chess Federation Bharat Singh and FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.
