To the delight of all Indians, India won bronze medal in the 8th Women’s Asia Cup 2013 against China by 3-2 during penalty shootout in the 3rd/4th place play-off played at the National Stadium at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia on 27th September 2013.
Interestingly, the two teams ended up at 2-2 in the regulation time. Notably, Ritu Rani captained Indian team in the tournament, while Weilin Mao captained the Chinese team.
In fact, India had to win this tournament to qualify for the 2014 World Cup at The Hague in Holland. Anyway, it came at the third place.
On the other side, Japan banged defending champions Korea by 2-1 in the final to win the Asia Cup and reserve a berth in next year's World Cup.
