Belgium and France met in the first semi-final clash of the World Cup 2018. It was tipped to be one of the most exciting matches of this tournament, and goal scoring too. However, the match ended 1-0 in favour of France, Samuel Umtiti being the only goal scorer with a header from a corner coming early in the second half. France created a handful of chances and so did Belgium, but both the goal keepers seemed to be in brilliant form, keeping out shot after shot. Giroud missed an array of chances, the best of which came from a Kylian Mbappe back-heel.
On the other hand, KDB and Eden Hazard tried time and again to create something out of nothing. They came really close to an equaliser on couple of occasions just to put it wide. Belgium showed real character in defeat as they kept trying till the last moment. Eden Hazard’s performance on the night was commendable to say the least and it was sad to see the Chelsea star crash out of the World Cup like this.
France legend and Belgium assistant coach Thierry Henry looked dejected as he could not see his team through from the side lines. He, being the gentleman he is, went and congratulated the France team and wished them all the luck for the final on Sunday.
